We accomplish this by integrating our assessment and audit tools and educational approaches:

  • Threat / risk / vulnerability assessments, identifying strengths and improvements of security and emergency plans, business resumption and continuity plans

  • Practical emergency management tabletop exercises to prepare staff for incidents of an operational nature.

Security, Crime Prevention and Compliance Assessments

Risk Control provides a range of security, crime prevention and compliance assessments.

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) is a leading approach to deterring criminal behaviour. The goal of the CPTED consultant is to control the built environment by utilizing natural design strategies to eliminate or reduce crime and nuisance behaviour, reduce the fear of crime, and reduce liability, thus enhancing the livability, sustainability, and profitability of the built environment. We support you by assessing, analyzing, and implementing a CPTED strategy on your property or premises through a focused site survey and assessment.

CPTED Reports for Development Applications:

Our assessors possess the required training and enhanced CPTED certification to provide pre-construction assessment reports for development permits as often required by municipal governance. Our assessments are comprehensive, and approval of the CPTED report as part of the greater development application is guaranteed.

Physical Security Assessments

All organizations face physical threats - known or unknown - ranging from crime, natural disasters, technological incidents to human error. Physical security controls should be tailored to your organizations specific risk and vulnerabilities to increase their effectiveness.

Determining risk factors and vulnerabilities of clients’ facilities and critical infrastructure assets enables your organization to enhance the return on investment when compared to time and money spent on recovery efforts. The physical security risk assessment combines the process of conducting an exhaustive audit and analyzing the result, focusing on all the physical security layers of a particular premises, facility or organization.

Our assessors assist with:

  • Identification of assets, and determining the risk and vulnerability exposures with an associated risk profile

  • Conducting a physical inspection and evaluation of every aspect of your security program, and its electronic security systems and controls, and integration throughout your premises

  • Providing recommendations for mitigation and control measures

Security System Design & Implementation

Risk Control’s team of experienced physical security specialists have designed complex and large-scale integrated security systems for operations and facilities across the Americas. Our security specialists prepare organizations for the rapidly changing threats in a modern environment.

We upgrade existing controls or design new systems to coincide with the building construction, and plan the integration of electronic programs and security measures across your multi-facility organization. Our projects start with a security assessment to ensure we are selecting and applying the right technology to meet your organization’s risk exposure and vulnerabilities.

Our team possesses the electrical engineering and specification writing expertise to develop a variety of integrated electronic security solutions for any facility, need or application. We will control your risk by designing the video surveillance, access control, and intrusion detection systems for your next project.

*Please note, Risk Control does not physically install security systems in British Columbia, but we can assist clients with overall project management, system design and the contractor selection process.

Information Security (ISMS) ISO 27001

We offer consultations for Information Security frameworks, including performing a gap analysis, framework design, implementation, and audit to help your organization achieve overall compliance with the ISO 27001:2022 standard. ISO 27001 is an information security standard, part of the more significant ISO 27000 family of standards, which provides best practice advice and guidance on implementing and maintaining an information security management system (ISMS). ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is a global federation of national standards bodies for more than 160 countries. The pillars of a practical ISMS framework are:

  • Confidentiality: Preventing unauthorized persons or programs (endpoints) from accessing information.

  • Integrity: Preventative measures that protect data, programs, and operating systems from modification or corruption.

  • Availability: Prevent data integrity loss so your organization’s information is always available and accessible to the appropriately designated personnel. This pillar also prevents the formation of silos.

Risk Control can design and implement an Information Security Management System (ISMS) that gives your organization a framework to protect your information assets against security threats and vulnerabilities. After our ISMS implementation, your organization will be safeguarded by three types of internal controls: Preventative, Detective, and Corrective.

We can provide assistance with job descriptions, interview questions, interviews, knowledge based testing, background checks and more.

INVESTIGATION SUPPORT - INTERNAL COMPLAINTS & COMPLEX FILES

Our team can act as the primary investigator for Complaints Against Peace Officers as outlined in the Peace Officer Act (Part 2 - Complaints and Discipline). We can appropriately act on behalf of the employer to professionally, thoroughly, and in accordance with the legislation, investigate and report on the complaint. We also investigate complaints initiated by the authorized employer, providing a neutral third party lens to the concern.

Has your agency experienced a complex file outside the scope and knowledge base of your frontline officers? We can assist you by guiding your officers through the investigation including, interviewing, warrant application, legal process and report writing.

PROGRAM & DEPARTMENT REVIEWS

Program and department reviews - These reviews assist the employer in achieving their goals and determine how the organization can improve the services that matter most to the agency and citizens, both now and into the future. We will examine the relevance, effectiveness and efficiency of your Peace Officer program, providing recommendations for improvement at the conclusion. We can also complete limited scope reviews for a specific aspect of your Peace Officer program.

Program Audits - The Solicitor General conducts compliance audits to ensure each authorized employer is abiding by the Public Security Peace Officer Program Policy and Procedure Manual. We possess an in-depth audit and review program to ensure your agency is holistically compliant with the requirements to reach success in the required audit process. We will assist you in preparing for the audit and rectifying any deficiencies we note in our review.

POLICY & PROCEDURE DEVELOPMENT

We can develop new policies and procedures for your agency’s operations. Whether it be a single Solicitor General policy requirement, development of an internal procedure, or the creation of an entire department policy manual, we can assist you with your administration needs.

OPERATIONAL FILE REVIEWS

Let us take the burden off your agencies leadership and regularly review all operational files and reports. Our team ensures appropriate action is taken within existing legislative and policy frameworks, investigations are timely, and the officers application of the law is correct.
